Dog spike

Also known as cut spike, its head is L-shaped. It has a square bar body whose head is tilted to fit the upper surface of the bottom of the rail. Dog spikes are usually used for smaller track sections, with common specifications such as 5/8 "x 6" and 9/16 "x 5-1/2".
