railroad tie plate friction requirement

Factors affecting friction properties

Surface roughness
The contact surface between the plate and the bottom of the rail requires a certain roughness to increase friction.
This is usually achieved by sandblasting, embossing or other surface treatment processes.

Material property
Plate material: usually use steel, need to have high hardness and wear resistance.
Coating or treatment: Galvanizing, phosphating or other surface treatments can improve the coefficient of friction and corrosion resistance.

Bolting force
The fastening force of the bolt directly affects the friction between the cushion plate and the rail.
The appropriate torque value needs to be determined according to the design specification.

Environmental condition
Humidity: Humidity may reduce the coefficient of friction.
Temperature: High temperatures may reduce the frictional properties of the material.
Pollution: Pollutants such as oil and dust can significantly reduce friction.
