How to install a cast iron rail shoulder?
Installation Steps
Preparation:
Clean the rail base and sleeper surface to remove rust, debris, or old fasteners.
Check the rail shoulder for defects (cracks, warping) before installation.
Positioning:
Place the cast iron rail shoulder snugly against the rail foot, ensuring proper alignment with the rail gauge.
Verify that the shoulder fits securely without gaps (use a feeler gauge for precision).
Fastening:
Insert shoulder bolts or clips (e.g., Pandrol e-clips, SKL-12) to hold the shoulder in place.
Torque bolts to 200–250 Nm (manufacturer specifications may vary).
Final Inspection:
Ensure the rail shoulder provides firm lateral support to prevent rail roll.
Check for proper contact between the shoulder and rail base to avoid uneven load distribution.
Tools Required:
Torque wrench
Rail gauge
Feeler gauge
Impact wrench (for large-scale installations)
