Cast rail shoulder and steel shoulder difference

difference

Material difference

Cast rail shoulder:
It is mainly made of cast iron material, which is an iron-carbon alloy with high strength and hardness, as well as good wear and corrosion resistance.
Common cast iron material standards include QT500-7, QT450-10, QT400-15, etc. These standards specify the material's tensile strength, yield strength, hardness and impact toughness and other performance indicators.
Rail shoulder (usually the side part of the rail, the shoulder) :
Mainly made of high quality steel, the rails are usually made of carbon steel or alloy steel to provide higher strength and wear resistance.
The strength and wear resistance of steel rails are much higher than that of rail, and can withstand greater weight and higher operating speeds while reducing wear and maintenance costs.

Performance difference

Cast rail shoulder:
Due to the characteristics of cast iron materials, cast rail shoulders have high hardness and wear resistance, and can withstand the huge pressure of railway traffic.
At the same time, the cast rail shoulder also has a certain corrosion resistance, which can maintain long-term stability and durability in harsh environments.
Rail shoulder:
As a part of the rail, the shoulder also has the high strength and wear resistance of the rail.
The design of the rail shoulder also considers the function of preventing the wheel from derailing, ensuring the stability and safety of the train.

Application difference

Cast rail shoulder:
It is mainly used in connection and fixing between railway track and concrete sleeper.
In some heavy haul railways and mine railways, cast rail shoulders, with its strong bearing capacity and stability, provide a strong guarantee for the safe operation of trains.
Rail shoulder:
As a side part of the rail, the rail shoulder is an important part of the railway system.
It not only directly bears the weight of the train and its load transmitted by the wheels, but also guides the direction of the train.
